Musically Inclined Music Classes

Musically Inclined is a program involving  the Orff method of music as well as using portions of the Musikgarten curriculum.  Orff, the method, was created by a german composer many years ago named Carl Orff.  He specifically created this method for children.  It was to enable them to enhance or find their singing voice as well as rhythmically train them with pitched and non-pitched instruments.  This is done through simple body movements and simple rhythmic instruments.  The musikgarten curriculum follows the seasons and uses songs, finger plays and movement stories to encourage beat competency, singing and pitch as well as simple dynamics.  This is all accomplished in a hands on approach where the children are learning while having fun.

Carol Wright has been teaching music for 20 years. She currently teaches the Casa music program at Wheatley Montessori as well as Nelephant Montessori school.  Her degree is B.A. honours in Music, specifically Vocal Pedagogy and Literature.  She has Orff training as well as Musikgarten curriculum certification. 

We are now offering a music class for babies  Newborn - 12 months   Mondays from 9:30 - 10 a.m. (with parent).

This class offers the parents/caregivers the opportunity to play with their babies in a musical setting experiencing music and movement activities designed to delight the child and awaken his curiosity about music.  By singing, dancing, bouncing and rocking the child's music aptitude is carefully nurtured laying the foundation for beat awareness, vocal production and aural discrimination.

Enjoy mixing colours? Let's use liquid watercolour paints and food colour and watch them blend into our diffusing paper before our eyes to design a colour explosion work of art!
 
Wednesday March 17th - The Story of  Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfisher
Let's re-create this famous children's classic into our very own Rainbow fish with scales to share with others!
 
Thursday March 18th - Chinese Lantern
Rubbing plates, crayons, markers and your imagination.  Who could ask for any more creativity than to celebrate with your very own Chinese lanterns!

How to Register for Programs & Workshops

  • All classes are to be registered by phone or coming into the store, with credit card, interac or cash,  no cheques, email, or fax accepted.

  • Reservations can be made by phone, however a registration form must still be filled out, along with payment in full, to secure a spot in the program.

Method of Payment

  • Cash, Interac, Visa or Mastercard no cheques accepted.

  • Prices include all materials plus applicable taxes.

Refund & Cancellation Policies

  • Registrants may cancel up until 10 days before the first class and will receive a credit note in the amount of the enrollment cost. After which a non-transferable, non-refundable $30.00 administration fee will be charged.

  • If a course is canceled due to low enrollment, registrants will be given notice and refunds issued immediately thereafter

  • Unfortunately we are unable to grant refunds or make-up classes for classes missed as these are group classes. 

Single Workshops $8 a child

Workshop Club Card - $40 (for 6 workshops, valid for one year)

(Club Card includes 6 spots to attend workshops held on Saturday’s, Summer or March Break)

Saturday Morning Workshops begin at 9am until 10am

Classes are open to all children ages 4 to 10

To register, pre-payment is required to guarantee a space for your child. All classes are to be registered by phone or coming into the store, with credit card, interac or cash,  no cheques, email, or fax accepted. If your child has a club card, you may reserve spaces by phone, fax, e-mail or in store. Smarty Pants staff will make reminder calls to all families the day before all workshops.

A phone call 24 hours prior to the workshop date must be made to state reason for not attending. If we do not receive a phone call, you will be charged for one workshop on your club card
